So you have a baby... now what? We all want what is best for our kids, and their education is no different. I know when we had our first son, I scoured the internet for the latest and greatest baby education system. After an education degree, countless books on education for babies, and experience as a first grade teacher, I want to give you two steps to help you start your education for your baby.

Talk to Your Baby!

While this may not sound revolutionary, it makes a huge difference. In the classroom it was easy to pick out the students who had parents that talked to them, and those who were parked in front of the television at every opportunity. From birth to about 18 months it may not seem like your baby is learning very much, but this could not be further from the truth. Not only is he is learning who he is, where he is, and what he is, he is learning about the environment around him. As you walk through the house carrying your baby, label the things that you see such as, "Oh, do you see the picture of mommy?" and "Look, the red book is sitting on the counter." Now I am not going to tell you that with this strategy your baby will begin speaking at 6 months. Nor will your 12 or 18 month show vast gains over other children. But there will be gains, and that is what is important. You can help your child to begin moving in the right direction, and as he matures, those gains will show more and more.
